Julija Leonidowna Latynina ( Russian Ю́лия Леони́довна Латы́нина ; born June 16, 1966 in Moscow ) is a Russian writer and journalist .

Life

As the daughter of a literary critic and a writer, Latynina studied philology at the Maxim Gorki Literature Institute . Ten years after starting her studies, she achieved a Ph.D. at the Institute of Slavic and Balkan Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Since 1995 she has been a member of the Moscow Writers' Union.

She worked for over a dozen print and television companies as a columnist and commentator, often in the field of business reporting.

After four years of Putin's presidency in 2004, she was a member of the 2008 committee with a view to the 2008 Russian presidential elections . After the first four years, the government had not achieved any of the promises, the main result was rather the "creation and strengthening of the president's personal power regime" on the way to an autocracy .

A Seljonka attack was carried out on Latynina . In July 2017 a gas was piped into her apartment and in early September 2017 her car went up in flames. She and her family temporarily fled abroad. On September 8, 2017, after many previous awards, she received the Kamerton Prize of the Russian Union of Journalists for her commitment to human rights and freedom of the press.

Latynina found Russia unable to protect its citizens when she left the country. “Up until 2014, the regime had two main pillars: petrodollars and television. In 2014 the petrodollars were over. Supposedly it ended up after the Crimea, but I tend that the Crimea was a preemptive blow. Patriotism should replace petrodollars. (…) There are two main resources of an authoritarian regime: lies and violence. So far there have been enough lies. When the lie was over, violence began. "

Works

From 1990 onwards, Latynina wrote well over 20 books, some in fantasy and some in crime .
