Committee 2008

The 2008 Committee ( Russian Комитет 2008 ) was an association of liberal opposition members in Russia .

The members of the committee, which was founded in January 2004, were critical of the politics and governance of the then President Vladimir Putin after four years of his presidency: The free press had been smashed, entrepreneurs were forced to obey and parliament had been transformed into puppets Path to an autocracy .

The declared goal of the organization was to secure free and fair presidential elections in 2008 . They wanted to prevent the appointment of a predetermined successor in the Moscow Kremlin .

The chairman of the committee was Garry Kasparov , its members included Vladimir Bukovsky , Boris Nemtsov , Yevgeny Kisselev , Vladimir Kara-Mursa , Vladimir Ryzhkov , Viktor Shenderovich , Julia Latynina and Irina Chakamada .
