Julio César Arzú

Julio César Arzú (born May 4, 1951 in Tegucigalpa ) is a former Honduran football player . He played in the position of goalkeeper .

career

Arzú played in his home country for the first division club Real España . Honduras was able to qualify for the 1982 World Cup in Spain and caused a few surprises during the tournament. Right at the start, the Hondurans managed a sensational 1-1 draw against hosts Spain. In the game against Northern Ireland , the Arzú team were able to achieve a 1-1 defeat, while in the last game against Yugoslavia they lost 1-0 with a penalty in the 88th minute, which also meant that Honduras was eliminated from the World Cup meant. Arzú, who had played an outstanding tournament until then, collapsed crying after the Yugoslav penalty goal and buried his face in the grass. After the World Championship, he moved to Racing de Santander in Spain before ending his career in Argentina .
