Julio García Espinosa

Julio García Espinosa (born September 5, 1926 in Havana ; † April 13, 2016 there ) was a Cuban screenwriter , director and cultural functionary.

Life

Julio García Espinosa studied film directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome . In 1955 he made the documentary El mégano with Tomás Gutiérrez Alea , which was banned due to its social criticism. After the victory of the revolution he was appointed cinematographer for the rebel army's cultural department and directed the documentaries La vivienda and Esta nuestra tierra . In 1959 he was one of the founders of the Cuban state film institute ICAIC . The documentaries Un año de libertad , Muerte o libertad and Cuba baila followed in 1960 . In 1961 he made the film El joven rebelde , in 1967 the comedy Las aventuras de Juan Quinquin . In 1970 the documentation Tercer mundo, tercer guerra mundial followed . In 1977 García Espinosa shot La sexta parte del mundo and participated in the completion of the film De cierta manera by the late Sara Gómez . In 1978 he made Son o no son , 1989 La inútil muerte de mi socio Manolo , 1993 El piano , 1994 Reina y Rey and in 1998 the episode film Enrendando sombras .

García Espinosa also worked on numerous scripts with other directors, including Año nuevo with Jorge Fraga in 1960 , La primera carga a machete in 1969 , Los días del agua in 1971 and Ustedes tienen la palabra with Manuel Octavio Gómez in 1973 , and Lucía with Humberto in 1968 Solás , 1972 Girón with Manuel Herrera , 1972 Introducción a Chile with Miguel Torres , 1972 Viva la república with Pastor Vega and 1989 La balla del Alhambra with Enrique Pineda Barnet .
