Julius Diem

Julius Diem (born August 5, 1886 in Dornbirn ; † May 17, 1952 ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ), designer and head of the institute for the promotion of trade. From 1926 to 1928 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending the lower secondary school in Dornbirn, Diem graduated from the technical center in Winterthur, where he took his final exam as an engineer on April 17, 1907. From 1907 to 1909 he was employed as a designer in the automobile factory in Turin and then from 1909 to 1912 as a designer in the technical office of FM Hämmerle . In 1913 Diem became head of the Business Development Institute for Vorarlberg, and in 1921 he was appointed inspector of the business training schools in Vorarlberg. After the National Socialists came to power on September 30, 1938, on the basis of a decree by the Reich Governor of Vienna, he was forcibly retired with half of the rest enjoyment and after the end of the war, from April 1949 to July 1951, he was the head of the re-established Business Development Institute for Vorarlberg . Diem held the title or professional title and status of engineer (engineer), building officer and councilor.

Politics and functions

Diem was a member of the Christian Social Party and active in local politics as a member of the Dornbirn local school council. He ran for the Christian Social Party in the Feldkirch electoral district in the 1923 state elections and succeeded Engelbert Luger in the state parliament on September 16, 1926 . He was a member of this until the end of the legislative period on April 1, 1928. In the state parliament Diem was a member of the economics committee.

Diem was also a member of the district school council and from 1935 to 1938 president of the regional association for tourism in Vorarlberg. He also acted as chairman of the club house society and was chairman of the Dornbirn local group of the Vorarlberg relief organization.

Private

Diem was born the son of master locksmith Friedrich Diem (1857–1937) and his wife Maria Magdalena Lampert (1855–1935). He married Helena Hämmerle (1890–1988) in Dornbirn on October 8, 1917, and had one son each in 1918 and 1920 respectively.
