Julius Kalaš
Julius Kalaš ( Luis Kassal , born August 18, 1902 in Prague ; † May 12, 1967 there ) was a Czech composer.
Kalaš was a student of Josef Bohuslav Foerster , Jaroslav Křička and Josef Suk at the Prague Conservatory . From 1925 to 1953 he was the pianist and artistic director of the satirical male sextet The Teachers of Gotham , for which he wrote 125 ballads and songs.
Since 1948 he worked at the film faculty of the Academy of Music Arts as a professor of music and sound. He was the first president of the Czech Music Foundation. In addition to film and drama music, Kalaš composed an opera, six operettas, three symphonic poems, a cello and a viola concerto, chamber music works, piano pieces, choral works, dances and songs.
