Julius Kemna (born December 8, 1837 in Barmen ; † June 8, 1898 in Breslau ) was a German machine manufacturer and founder of Kemna Bau .

biography

Kemna's father was Johann Abraham Kemna, a wine wholesaler from Barmen and supplier to the Royal Prussian court (1810–1878). Johann Abraham Kemna's family can be traced back to the 15th century, where they most likely lived in the Kemna manor . Julius Kemna's mother was Carolina Wilhelmina van Hees (1814–1880), the niece of the well-known Barmer school founder Susanna Sophia Antoinetta van Hees and granddaughter of the first pharmacist Johann Hermann von Hees .

Julius Kemna moved from Barmen to Silesia at a young age and initially worked in agriculture. In 1867 Kemna founded a workshop for "the construction of agricultural machines". Julius Kemna married Philippine Lübbert (1847–1921), daughter of the businessman August Friedrich Lübbert and sister of Eduard Lübbert , on June 22, 1870 in Breslau . She grew up in Gut Zweibrodt near Breslau. Philippine Kemna gave birth to 3 sons, one of them Erich Kemna.

In 1871 Kemna began selling English steam threshing systems, and in 1882 he started producing road construction machines . Kemna died in 1898 and left his employees 30 marks for each year of service; For many, enough money to build a house. Kemna realized that the steam engine was revolutionary for industry as well as for agriculture and road construction. His many years of experience with English steam plow systems supported the growth of his company. Kemna was part of the Wroclaw upper middle class . During his time he was considered a "pioneer in agriculture and machine construction."

At the turn of the century, the company developed into a "large-scale industrial operation". Due to capacity expansion in 1905 around 900 workers were employed on a 52,000 m² industrial site. At the beginning of the 20th century the Julius Kemna company became the "leading steam plow company on the European continent and penetrated the world market into the monopoly of English companies". In 1923, Kemna's company was the first in Germany to bring a road roller with a crude oil engine (Deutz diesel engine) onto the market.
