Julius Komárek (born August 15, 1892 in Markt Eisenstein , † February 7, 1955 in Prague ) was a Czech zoologist, university professor, author of zoological books and a member of the AV ČR .

Life

Julius Komárek was born in Eisenstein Castle in 1892 as the son of Julius Komárek senior, chief forester of the local Hohenzollern lands, and Maria, née Maria. Šámal born. The parents came from the Czech-speaking Prague bourgeoisie. In 1932 Komárek received his professorship, worked from 1940 to 1945 at the State Research Institute for Forest Protection and Hunting in Jíloviště . From 1947 to 1948 he was appointed dean of the university. He was later appointed a full member of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts, a full member of the Masaryk Academy, the Czech Research Council and the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences. Komárek spent much of his time traveling and researching fauna in the Balkans .

He published numerous books on wildlife, nature and travelogues through the Balkans.
