The Cistus Salviifolius ( Cistus salviifolius ) is a plant type from the genus of cistus (Cistus) in the family of rockrose (Cistaceae).
features
The aromatic, mostly evergreen shrub reaches heights of 30 to 100 cm. In contrast to the Montpellier cistus , it is not glandular and sticky. The up to 4 cm long and 2 cm wide, stalked leaves are ovate to elliptical in shape and arranged opposite one another. They are hairy on both sides, the top is wrinkled.
The long-stalked flowers stand individually or in clusters in pairs to four in the axilla of a bract. They measure about 3 to 5 cm in diameter. The five sepals are broadly ovate and hairy tomentose. The two outer ones are heart-shaped at the base. The five petals are white with a yellow background.
Flowering time is from April to June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
The sage-leaved rockrose is widespread throughout the Mediterranean and reaches the southern edge of the Alps in the north. Locations are garigues , maquis , dry rocky slopes on nutrient-poor soils.
