Sage-leaved rockrose ( Cistus salviifolius )

The aromatic, mostly evergreen shrub reaches heights of 30 to 100 cm. In contrast to the Montpellier cistus , it is not glandular and sticky. The up to 4 cm long and 2 cm wide, stalked leaves are ovate to elliptical in shape and arranged opposite one another. They are hairy on both sides, the top is wrinkled.

The long-stalked flowers stand individually or in clusters in pairs to four in the axilla of a bract. They measure about 3 to 5 cm in diameter. The five sepals are broadly ovate and hairy tomentose. The two outer ones are heart-shaped at the base. The five petals are white with a yellow background.

Flowering time is from April to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
