Life

He then attended the educational seminar in Breslau and taught at the Magdalenen and Friedrichs grammar schools. In 1824 he received his doctorate.

In 1824 he became a teacher at the grammar school in Thorn, initially for Greek and Latin, at times also for religion, and since 1838/39 for history and geography. Since that school year he was the highest-ranking teacher in the college and was appointed professor there in 1840.

In 1845 he left school early at his own request. He lived and published in Thorn for a few years and then moved to Berlin, where he died in 1866.

The classical philologist Friedrich August Wernicke was his brother.
