Jump Cut (magazine)

Jump Cut: A Review of Contemporary Media is a journal devoted to the analysis of cinema, television, and video and related media. Their stated goal is to approach their issues from "a nonsectarian left, feminist and anti-imperialist" perspective. Its name comes from the cutting technique of the jump cut , in which a sudden visual break occurs.

history

Jump Cut was founded in 1974 by John Hess (a union activist), Chuck Kleinhans (a professor at Northwestern University ), and Julia Lesage (a professor at the University of Oregon ). The magazine was published in print until 2001. Soon after, online publication began as eJumpCut.org. The old printed editions are also available online.
