Jump Up (Drum and Bass)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump Up is the name of a sub-genre of drum and bass that first became very popular in the second half of the 1990s, but is still very established and popular in the scene.

Characteristic of Jump Up are the deep synthesizer basslines and a monotonous, fast breakbeat that hardly changes during the track in contrast to other jungle sub-genres. It is usually a simple two step rhythm used, supported by reggae - and hip-hop - samples . Tracks like this, in which the party factor is in the foreground, were often mockingly referred to as clown steps due to their simple beat structures and catchy bass lines .

Typical artists of this genre are Aphrodite , DJ Hype and DJ Zinc . While these stand for the "classic" jump-up sound of the 1990s, today it is more names such as Original Sin, Hazard, Twisted Individual, Macky Gee and TC that are characteristic of more current trends, which are now clearly different in sound from the in the "classic" jump up that emerged in the 1990s.
