DJ Hype (* in London ; real name Kevin Ford ) has been one of the most influential British DJs and music producers in the jungle and drum and bass genres since the mid-1980s .
Career
Kevin Ford began his career in the mid-1980s as a helper at raves in the London Borough of Hackney , where he was responsible for sound mixing , among other things . The style of music played there consisted of rare groove, house , hip-hop and later became known as jungle. It was here that Ford's talent as a DJ was recognized, and as a result, he developed a hip-hop-inspired love for scratches . This hip-hop influence can also be seen in his later productions. DJ Hype was also involved in creating the Jump Up . At the end of the 1980s he was booked several times by the London- based pirate station Fantasy FM and was enjoying growing popularity there. DJ Hype was also active as a producer of so-called party tracks at this time .
At the beginning of the 1990s, DJ Hype was able to establish his record label Ganja Records (together with DJ Zinc ) with club hits such as Going out for the Loot . In 1994 DJ Hype was well known in the drum and bass scene , and the grooves from England's garages and abandoned old buildings were also noticed outside the UK . In 1994 and 1995 he received awards for Best Male DJ and Best Radio DJ at the UK Hardcore Awards . At this time, DJ Hype founded the record label True Playaz , which expressed its support for marijuana consumption on the covers of the recordings . In 1996 the tracks Peace Love and Unity , Super Sharp Shooter and P Funk Era became club hits. Since 2000, DJ Hype has hosted a weekly radio program on the Kiss100 station in addition to his work as a DJ and producer, in which he introduces new jungle and drum and bass titles as well as the drum and bass charts .
