June Bronhill , actually June Gough (born June 26, 1929 in Broken Hill , Australia , † January 25, 2005 in Sydney ) was an Australian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

June Bronhill was born June Gough, her stage name derived from her place of birth. After winning several singing competitions in Australia, she continued her education in England. From 1954 she appeared in Sadler's Wells and was successful with her coloratura soprano in operas, operettas and musicals . Her most important role was Hanna Glawari in Franz Lehár's operetta The Merry Widow . June recorded several LPs in her career. In 1976 she was awarded the Order of the British Empireexcellent. Bronhill lived alternately in Great Britain and Australia, in 1993 she retired from the stage and last lived in Sydney.
