Young Citizens Celebration

The Young Citizens Celebration is an annual celebration in Switzerland , Western Austria and Liechtenstein for citizens who come of age .

Switzerland

Organization and process

In Switzerland, the young citizens' celebration ( French: réception des jeunes citoyens majoritaires ) is organized by the political community or local community . The young people are informed by the mayor about their rights and duties, especially about the possibility to participate in the community. A vow is also made. After the official part, there is often an excursion in the region, a dinner and / or a music event.

In 2012, 41 out of 113 invited people were present at the young citizens' party in the city of Solothurn . It happens that municipalities hold their young citizens' celebrations together because of the low number of participants.

In some communities, like those of the Friborg Sense district , tuna , Kreuzlingen or Domat-Ems , even people who are the Swiss citizenship not have invited. This custom is often motivated by the fact that all 18-year-olds are given new rights and responsibilities. In addition, many foreigners in the canton of Friborg are entitled to vote and vote at community level.

History

In the past, the young citizens' celebration was held in connection with the national celebration , for example in Dornach in 1949.

Austria

In Austria, similar events are held as in Switzerland.

Liechtenstein

In the Principality of Liechtenstein a nationwide young civil ceremony has been held since 1962 to take part in which even the sovereign or his deputy. The community of residence organizes an additional celebration for every 18 year old .
