Junior Jones (* 20th December 1970 in Brooklyn , USA ) is a retired American boxer in Superbantam- and bantamweight .

Professional career

On June 8, 1989, he successfully made his professional debut with a technical knockout victory in the first round against his compatriot George Young. On October 23, 1993 he was the bantamweight world champion of the WBO when he defeated Jorge Eliecer Julio by unanimous decision. He swore this belt in the following year against Elvis Álvarez and lost it to John Michael Johnson TKo

He switched to super bantamweight and fought in this weight class in November 1996 against Marco Antonio Barrera for the WBO World Championship. Jones won by disqualification in round 5 and thus captured the belt. In the following year Jones defended the title in a direct rematch against Marco Antonio Barrera by unanimous decision and lost it to the until then undefeated Mexican normal boom Erik Morales (30-0-0) by technical knockout in round 4.

In 2002 he ended his career.
