Junko Mizuno ( Japanese 水 野 純 子 , Mizuno Junko ; born May 27, 1973 in Itabashi , Tokyo Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator .

Mizuno is known for her drawing style, which combines the cute and the grotesque and has an influence from Osamu Tezuka . Your female figures have disproportionate eyes and heads.

biography

In her youth, she took a liking to the girl horror mangas by Kazuo Umezu . She stopped drawing when she was twelve and only started again after seeing Sailor Moon . “That was the inspiration to go back to the manga and completely change my style so that I enjoyed it more. I loved these cute and strong girl characters. They weren't just drawn, they had personality and a strong story and people liked them so much. ” In the following time she created some dōjinshi , amateur comics, (including about Sailor Moon ), which she did not sell or sell published. It was not until 1996 that she self- published 50 copies of her dōjinshis MINA animal DX and sold them. Editors of the music magazine H discovered this comic and hired her as an illustrator.

The record label Avex Trax commissioned her to draw mangas that are narrative like techno music and that should be included in the booklets of music CDs. Mizuno revised the comics drawn for the CD publications and brought them out again in 1998 as an anthology under the title Pure Trance ( ピ ュ ア ・ ト ラ ン ス , Pyua Toransu ) at the East Press publishing house .

This was followed by three books that were created based on fairy tales: Cinderalla-chan ( シンデラーラちゃん, Shinderāra-chan , 1999, Kōshinsha ), Hansel & Gretel ( ヘンゼル&グレーテル , Henseru & Gurēteru , 2000, Kōshinsha) and Ningyohimeden ( 人魚姫殿 , 2001, Bunkasha ). In the manga magazine Comic Beam she brought out the series Fancy Gigolo Peru ( フ ァ ン シ ー ジ ゴ ロ ▼ ペ ル , Fanshī Jigoro Peru ) from 2002 to 2004 ; later the manga appeared in three edited volumes by Enterbrain .

In addition to her work as an illustrator and cartoonist, she also works as a character designer and produces plastic figures. Her work has been translated into English and French.
