Yuri Jewlampijewitsch Titow ( Russian Юрий Евлампиевич Титов ; born November 27, 1935 in Omsk ) is a former Soviet gymnast .

Athletic career

Yuri Titov belonged to the Soviet gymnastics team from 1956 to 1966, he won an Olympic gold medal with the team and a total of nine Olympic medals. In 1956 and 1960 he finished third in the individual all-around competition. At the gymnastics world championships Titov won ten medals, including four gold medals, at the gymnastics world championships in 1962 in Prague he won the all - around against the all- around Olympic champions of 1964 Yukio Endo and 1960 Boris Schachlin . At the club level, Titov started for Burewestnik Kiev .

After active sport

Titow was President of the World Gymnastics Federation, Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique , from 1976 to 1996 . In 1995 he was accepted as President of the Gymnastics Federation in the International Olympic Committee , but left when he resigned in the Gymnastics Federation in 1996. In 1999 he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame .
