Justin (robot)

Justin is a humanoid robot from the Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Center .

Justin has two movable arms with four-fingered hands as well as various cameras that are supposed to enable him to move autonomously in space and cope with complex tasks. His upper body rests on a mobile platform with four spring-loaded wheels, which can be individually controlled as required and extended and retracted in order to drive through narrow passages such as corridors.

The robot acts as a research platform for a variety of current topics in robotics development. These include artificial intelligence, sensitive whole-body control, telepresence, image recognition, path planning and safe human-robot interaction.

The system exists in several versions. The two mobile versions on wheels are called Rollin 'Justin and Agile Justin. The stationary version of the system, consisting of an upper body, is called Space Justin.
