Konstantin Walentinowitsch Makarow

Konstantin Walentinowitsch Makarow ( Russian Константи́н Валенти́нович Мака́ров ; born June 18, 1931 in Tichorezk ; † August 3, 2011 in Moscow ) was a Soviet - Russian naval admiral .

Life

Makarov, whose father was a locomotive driver and later head of a senior administration of the People's Commissariat for Transport and Communication, entered the 1st Baltic Officers' College of the Naval Forces in 1949 and graduated in 1953. He began his career as a commander of the torpedo group on the submarine S- 71 of Project 613 of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol . After attending higher specialty courses for naval officers in Leningrad in 1960 , he served as the commander of a nuclear submarine from 1963 . In 1967 he graduated from the Naval War Academy in Leningrad. From January 1971 he worked as chief of staff of the 7th nuclear submarine division of the Northern Fleet and from December 1973 as its commander. In November 1975 he became deputy chief of staff of the operational command of the main staff of the Soviet naval fleet and 1981 chief of staff. He commanded the Baltic Fleet from 1984 , was promoted to Chief of Staff 1st Deputy Chief of Staff of the Soviet Navy in 1985 and promoted to Admiral in the same year . By resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on November 4, 1989, he was awarded the rank of Naval Admiral. Makarov lived in Moscow and had been retired since 1992. In June 1998 he took over the function of chairman of the higher attestation commission, whose task is the recognition of the state exams of graduates of the Naval War Academy .

Three years after the death of his first wife, with whom he has a son, Makarov remarried. This marriage remained childless. His son is a retired frigate captain .

Makarov died of the effects of heart valve surgery after a thrombus had formed . He was buried in the Trojekurovo cemetery.
