Felix Nikolajewitsch Gromow

Felix Nikolajewitsch Gromow ( Russian Фе́ликс Никола́евич Гро́мов ; born August 29, 1937 in Vladivostok ) is a Russian naval admiral and former commander in chief of the Russian naval fleet .

Life

Gromov began his service in the Soviet naval navy in 1955 . In 1959 he graduated from the Pacific Officers' College of Naval Forces SO Makarov . From September 1959 to May 1960 he served in the Pacific Fleet as a battery commander and combat section commander (GA-2) of a destroyer . For a short time he switched to the Strategic Missile Forces of the USSR until 1961 , but then returned to the Navy and in May 1961 became GA-2 commander of the main caliber of the cruiser Admiral Senjawin and in December 1969 of the destroyer Wdochnowenny . In October 1972 he became the commander of the cruiser Dmitri Poscharsky . Before that he served from 1970 as chief officer on the cruiser Admiral Senjawin and then as its commander from October 1975 to June 1977. After successfully completing courses at the Naval War Academy , Gromov became chief of staff of the 4th ship training division of the Leningrad on June 29, 1977 Military base. From 1981 to 1984 he was Chief of Staff and Commander of the 8th Operational Squadron of the Pacific Fleet, then until 1988 1st Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet and from 1988 to 1991 its commander himself. In 1986 and 1991 Gromov graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces . In January 1992 he took over the duties of 1st Deputy Naval Commander of the Commonwealth of Independent States .

On August 19, 1992 he was promoted to commander in chief of the Russian Navy and on June 13, 1996, he was promoted to naval admiral. In the same year, Gromov publicly criticized the insufficient financial resources of the maritime armed forces and the inadequate state support for the military. He called for modern weapons equipment, the creation of normal social conditions for members of the army and a higher standard of training. By order of the President of the Russian Federation Yeltsin on November 7, 1997, he was relieved of the duties of Commander-in-Chief of the Navy and retired.
