Gerhard Hirzinger
Gerhard Hirzinger (born January 17, 1945 in Schwandorf , Bavaria ) is a German professor of mechanics, robotics scientist and was head of the Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Center in Oberpfaffenhofen between 1992 and 2012 .
In 1995 he received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation , since 1997 he has held the status of an IEEE Fellow , in April 2004 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in Munich , and in 2005 the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Pioneer Award , In 2010 with the State Medal for special services to the Bavarian economy and in 2014 with the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art . Since 2008 he has been a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . For 2020 he received the Ring of Honor from the Eduard Rhein Foundation .
Hirzinger is an honorary professor at the Department of Real-Time Systems and Robotics at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich .
