Justine Triet (born July 17, 1978 in Fécamp ) is a French film director .

Life

Triet began her studies at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris at the age of 20 , which she finished in 2003. During her studies she worked closely with the German photographer Barbara Leisgen and gained her first experience as a screenwriter in collaboration with Thomas Levy-Lasne .

Triet began her career with short documentaries on political issues. In Sur place , which appeared in 2007, she devoted herself, for example, to the student protests against the Contrat Première Embauche , in Solférino to the presidential election in 2012. In Des ombres dans la maison , in 2010 she followed Pastor Valeria in her work in São Paulo. Triet's breakthrough came in 2010 with the short film Vilaine fille mauvais garçon , which deals with the meeting of two dissimilar characters and was shown at numerous international festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival in 2012 . At the Berlinale he was nominated for the Golden Bear for Best Short Film and won the Prix UIP Berlin, which made him nominated for the European Film Prize in the Best Short Film category.

Her feature film debut in 2013 was the comedy The President and My Children , the plot of which revolves around May 6, 2012 during the presidential elections. Triet took up a subject that she had already dealt with in Solférino . The President and My Children premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival . The film received a César nomination for Best First Work . Triet's second feature film Victoria - Men & Other Mishaps opened the Semaine de la critique at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2016 . The film received five César nominations in 2017, with Triet being nominated in the categories of Best Original Screenplay and Best Film .
