The Forchheim (Oberfr) Station is the largest train station in the Upper Franconian town of Forchheim . It is located on the Nuremberg – Bamberg railway line and is the starting point of the Forchheim – Behringersmühle railway line , which is served as a regular service to Ebermannstadt . The branch line to Höchstadt an der Aisch , which also branches off in Forchheim , was closed in 2005 and has since been dismantled. In addition to Forchheim train station, there is a stop in Kersbach in the urban area. Forchheim station and Kersbach stop have been integrated into the Nuremberg S-Bahn network since December 2010 .

location

The train station is about one kilometer southeast of the old town north of the Wiesent , which flows into the Regnitz in Forchheim . The closest long-distance stops are in Bamberg to the north and Erlangen to the south .

history

With the opening of the section of the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn from Nuremberg to Bamberg on February 1, 1844, Forchheim was connected to the German railway network, and passenger traffic began a month later. On June 1, 1891, the branch line to Ebermannstadt in Forchheim was opened, which was later continued to Heiligenstadt in Upper Franconia and Behringersmühle . In 1892 another branch line was put into operation, which led via Hemhofen to Höchstadt an der Aisch . The line to Höchstadt was closed in 1984 for passenger traffic. In the meantime there were plans to reactivate the line as part of the Erlangen city-surrounding railway , but this failed in 2002. As a result, the line was completely shut down in 2005 and redesigned in 2008. The tracks have now been dismantled. The station was rebuilt and expanded by expanding the line from Nuremberg to Bamberg to four tracks.

In October and November 2018, tracks 1 to 3 in the station went back into operation. In the north head, the transition to the track of the existing double-track line from / to Bamberg takes place.

Tracks

Until around 1990, track 1 led directly from the train station to Höchstadt, and track 5 directly from the train station to Behringersmühle. The Trubbach Bridge to the south of the station was originally designed with four tracks. As part of renovation work, the two outer tracks of the bridge were shut down and tracks 1 and 5 in the station area were threaded directly into the main line to Nuremberg. Platform track 1 was later dismantled. In the course of the S-Bahn construction work, track 1 was reinstalled a few years later as a butt track for the trains ending in Forchheim, but no longer connected in the north towards Bamberg. As part of the reconstruction of Forchheim station as part of the four-track expansion of the Nuremberg – Bamberg railway line , Forchheim station will be expanded to eight tracks with a new track arrangement, five of which are platform tracks.

Regional trains stop on tracks 1 and 7, the S-Bahn trains on tracks 4 and 5 and the trains to Ebermannstadt on track 8. The other three tracks without a platform are used for high-speed and freight traffic.
