Justino Yap

Justino Marato Yap is a former independence activist from East Timor . He comes from the community Manufahi .

Career

Yap graduated from secondary school at Liceu Dr. Francisco Machado and received a scholarship for 1972/73 to study engineering at the Technical University of Lisbon . In Portugal he belonged to the group of East Timorese students at the Casa dos Timores , whose residents were known for their interest in socialism. After the Carnation Revolution in 1974, his friend and political companion Vicente dos Reis used Yaps ticket to return to Portuguese Timor . Yap stayed in Lisbon and built up the Comité de Acção da FRETILIN (CAF) together with José Luís Guterres and Estanislau da Silva . During the Indonesian occupation (1975-1999), Yap had close contacts with the FRETILIN network while he was employed in the Portuguese government's environmental department.

Yap is married to a Portuguese woman and continues to live in Portugal.
