Vicente dos Reis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vicente Manuel dos Reis (also Vicente Sa'he Reis or Bie Ki Sa'he ; * in Bucoli , Portuguese Timor , † end of January 1979 in Manufahi , East Timor ) was an East Timorese politician and freedom fighter against the Indonesian occupation (1975-1999) .

Life

Sahe was the son of Liurai of Bucoli. After completing secondary school at Liceu Dr. Francisco Machado studied mechanical engineering in Portugal , where he was a member of a group of young political Timorese in the Casa dos Timores , which also included Abílio Araújo , the current head of the PNT . On September 11, 1974, he returned to East Timor without having finished his studies. To do this, he used the ticket of his friend and political companion Justino Yap Sahe, became a teacher at the Escola Técnica and in October one of the key figures in the founding of the União Nacional dos Estudantes de Timor (UNETIM), the student movement of FRETILIN . He was a member of the Central Committee of FRETILIN (CCF). Sahe was responsible for the grassroots and grassroots pilot project # 2 Bucoli . When the civil war in East Timor broke out in August 1975 against the União Democrática Timorense (UDT), Reis and Jorge Carapinha were captured by the UDT and taken to the Palapasu prison in Dili. He was later released.

When East Timor declared independence on November 28, 1975, Reis became Minister of Labor in the first government . Just nine days later, Indonesia officially began invading the neighboring country. Reis took over the training of the political cadres behind the lines and founded the Center for Political Education (CEFORPOL) in Naroman , Baguia and Uato-Lari . In 1976 Reis was in command of the Centro-Leste sector around the city of Baucau . It is believed that in this capacity he was involved in the execution of Aquiles Freitas Soares , who led another faction within FRETILIN. So far only political commissioner for Centro-Leste , Sahe became national political commissioner in 1977, succeeding António Duarte Carvarino . At the beginning of 1979 he was wounded in the leg during an ambush against the Indonesians in Manufahi between Fatuberlio and Alas , bled to death and was buried in the mountain Casa dos Morcegos , near the Suco Dotik (Alas administrative office). One leg was later stolen by Indonesian soldiers to prove the guerrilla leader's death.

On October 27, 2007, Sahe's remains were brought from Same to Bucoli, where his father still lives. There are always rumors and claims that Sahe is still alive. Some groups influenced by animism , such as the Colimau 2000 , claim that Sahe and Nicolau Lobato , who also perished in the struggle for independence , will return from the forest and lead the veterans to a glorious victory. A predicted date for this was New Years Eve 2004/2005.
