José Reis (2020)

José Maria dos Reis Costa , or José Reis for short , is an East Timorese politician and member of FRETILIN .

Career

Reis is a longstanding member of FRETILIN and is currently the party's deputy general secretary. He comes from a noble family from Bucoli . During the Indonesian occupation, Reis worked as an official in the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.

In 2001, Reis was elected to the Constituent Assembly of East Timor, from which the national parliament emerged in 2002 . On July 26, 2005, Reis was sworn in as State Secretary for Region I ( Lautém , Viqueque and Baucau ). He held the office until August 8, 2007.

Rice's house was burned to the ground during the 2006 riots in East Timor .

On October 3, 2017, Reis was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister for Government Affairs and remained in office until the eighth government of East Timor took office on June 22, 2018.

With the change in the government coalition and the admission of FRETILIN to the VIII government, Reis was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Planning and Requests ( Portuguese: Ministro do Plano e do Ordenamento ) on May 29, 2020 .

family

José's sister Terezinha de Jesus dos Reis has been Chefe de Suco in Bucoli since 2005 . The much older brother Vicente dos Reis was a minister in the first government of East Timor in 1975 and died in the struggle for freedom. Another brother, Mário Nicolau dos Reis ( Marito Reis ), was State Secretary for National Liberation Veterans Affairs from 2007 to 2012 and previously Transitional Administrator of the Baucau District . Another sister was a member of the national parliament of East Timor for FRETILIN . Vicente's son is the district coordinator of FRETILIN in Baucau.
