The Itzehoe correctional facility is the oldest and smallest of the five Schleswig-Holstein correctional facilities (JVA).
It has 32 detention places, 28 of which are intended for pre-trial detention in the Itzehoe District Court . The remaining four places are reserved for prisoners who work in the JVA as calf factors .

The Itzehoe JVA was built in 1876. Female prisoners were held there until 1966 and were then transferred to the Lübeck correctional facility .
