With the entry into force of the German Courts Constitution Act on October 1, 1879, these district courts were replaced by the three regional courts of Altona, Kiel and Flensburg, each with a public prosecutor's office. The district courts of Itzehoe and Schleswig were dissolved.
When Altona was incorporated into Hamburg by the Greater Hamburg Law of 1937, the Altona District Court was relocated to Itzehoe. As the Itzehoe district court, it moved to the Westerhof.
This stately villa was built in 1857 for the sugar factory owner Charles Pierre de Vos (1810–1889), who acquired the site in 1856. In 1919, his son donated the Westerhof, which had served as an auxiliary hospital during the World War, to the city of Itzehoe to enable the establishment of a hospital, which, however, did not come about due to lack of funds. In 1929 the city of de Vos acquired the park and opened it to the public as a city park in June 1930. After the regional court moved to the former post office building at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 3 in 2005, the state of Schleswig-Holstein did not find a buyer for the Westerhof and the 2969 square meter property at Breitenburger Str. 68/70 until 2009/10.
The district of the Itzehoe Regional Court originally included 13 local courts, the number of which was reduced to four as a result of the district reform from 1970.
Superordinate and subordinate courts
The Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court is superordinate to the Itzehoe regional court . The district courts of Elmshorn , Itzehoe , Meldorf and Pinneberg are subordinate .
