The JVA Neustrelitz is a penal institution with a youth penal unit for prisoners and prisoners on remand in closed and open prison and with a youth detention center.

Occupancy

The Neustrelitz prison has a capacity of 297 prison places. Special features are:

  • 60 detention places for young adults up to 30 years of age,
  • 20 places in open prison,
  • 24 detention places in social therapy for adolescents,
  • 7 detention places in addiction therapy for adolescents,
  • 15 places in the protected section of juvenile pre-trial detention,

On May 27, 2009 a youth detention center with 14 places was opened on the premises of the youth institution .

Otherwise, up to 15 young people are assigned to one residential group. Accommodation is generally in solitary confinement rooms, only in exceptional cases in a communal cell with a maximum of two people. Workplaces are available for all prisoners, primarily for school and vocational training for the prisoners.

Open execution

The two floors of the left half of the building are set up for prisoners in the open prison. The two floors of the right half of the building have been rebuilt and set up for youth arrest since May 27, 2009 . As a result of this restructuring, the number of places in open prison has decreased.

The peculiarity of the open execution of this correctional facility is that the prisoners are allowed to have a cell phone, but with the restriction that this must neither have a camera nor be internet-capable. In addition, the prisoners have to hand over the cell phones to the night lock and they are only given back the next morning.

Enforcement jurisdiction

According to the general execution plan of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the JVA Neustrelitz is the only penal institution in the state responsible for the execution of all juvenile sentences and pre-trial detention on young and adolescent male and female prisoners.
