Joke polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jux-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 17). The work was performed for the first time on January 24, 1846 in the Strüßl Hall, in the building of the theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna .

Remarks

The work was written for the industrial ball of Mardi Gras in 1846 and performed on the occasion. With the funny and happy work, the young people in particular should be addressed. One possible reason for naming the polka could have been a false report in the press that the young Strauss would marry the daughter of Joseph Lanner . Strauss simply dismissed this as a joke.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 45 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
