The January 2019 cold spell in the USA was a cold snap during winter 2018/2019 .

In late January 2019, an extreme cold spell triggered by a polar vortex hit the American Midwest and eastern Canada, killing at least 21 people. Sometimes temperatures of almost 40 degrees Celsius minus were measured.

On the Hawaiian island of Maui , it snowed for the first time in February 2019.
