The Kämergasse in the district town Düren ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ) is an ancient city road .

location

The street connects the Oberstraße with the Altenteich . The alley, which has been developed as a two-lane side street, was formerly within the Düren city fortifications .

history

The Kämergasse was called Kemersgasse, Schemersgasse, vicus pannatica or from 1355 Kempnergasse, from 1546 Kemersgasse and from 1599 Keimersgasse.

Although there is no clarity about the origin of the name, it can be assumed that the name is derived from the Kemperhof , which was then located in the street . On September 26, 1893, the residents of Kämergasse applied for the street name to be changed, but the city council saw no reason to do so.

This Kämergasse connected the Oberstrasse with the Kalle (op de Kallen) on the Altenteich. The old street name "op de Kalle" was a section of today's Altenteich between Stürtzstraße and Steinweg . At that time the woolen cloth makers who combed the woolen cloth lived and worked in Kämergasse. Besides these, the wool weavers and other factory workers lived in the alley.

Two of the Düren originals , Laute Dei and Bubbel Adam, lived in the alley .
