The Kölpiensee is a lake in the north of the Baltic Sea island of Usedom in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
Location and description
It is located in the district of Peenemünde in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district a few hundred meters north of the village and south of the Peenemünde airfield . The lake has a maximum size of about 800 × 520 meters with a surface of about 30 hectares. Its water level is only 0.3 meters above sea level . It is located in a fen area and is surrounded by a belt of reeds and swamps. Thus, its bank is practically inaccessible and nowhere suitable for swimming. The Kölpiensee is a resting place for numerous migratory birds and is located in the Usedom Island Nature Park .
