Jean-Christophe Spinosi (born September 2, 1964 in Drancy ) is a French conductor, violinist and founder of the Ensemble Matheus .

Life

Jean-Christophe Spinosi discovered at the age of 13 years thanks to a recording of Nikolaus Harnoncourt , the historical performance practice and devoted then a part of his music lessons learning the baroque violin . Inspired by the conducting style of Pierre Dervaux , he founded the "Ensemble Matheus" , which primarily specialized in instrumental and vocal music of the 17th and 18th centuries and was originally founded in 1991 as "Quatuor Matheus". In particular , Spinosi has earned an international reputation for conducting instrumental works and operas by Antonio Vivaldi . In addition, he recently conducted performances of Mozart and Rossini operas.

As a guest conductor, Spinosi has led numerous orchestras such as the Handel & Haydn Society in Boston, the New Japan Philharmonic and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin. the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchester Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, the Orchester de Paris, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Orchestra and others. He has conducted at the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris , at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, at the Carnegie Hall in New York , at the Salzburg Festival , at the Dortmund Concert Hall , at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Vienna State Opera .

As a conductor of vocal works, he has worked with singers such as Cecilia Bartoli , Sara Mingardo , Jennifer Larmore , Sandrine Piau , Simone Kermes , Marie-Nicole Lemieux , Nathalie Stutzmann , Philippe Jaroussky and Matthias Goerne .
