Life

Philippe Jaroussky with Christina Pluhar

Philippe Jaroussky received his first violin lessons at the age of eleven and began learning the piano at the age of 15. At the Regional Conservatories (CNR) of Versailles and Boulogne-Billancourt , he studied both instruments as well as harmony and composition. In 1996 he met his singing teacher Nicole Fallien , who recognized his outstanding vocal qualities and continues to teach him to this day. In addition, he continued his studies in early music with Michel Laplenie and Kenneth Weiss at the Paris Regional Conservatory (CNR). A performance of the oratorio Sedecia by Alessandro Scarlatti with the ensemble "Il Seminario Musicale" and Gérard Lesne at the Royaumont and Ambronay festivals in 1999 is considered to be the trigger for his steep career .

In 2002 he founded the “Ensemble Artaserse” in order to be more independent in the selection of his repertoire. Jaroussky made his debut in Germany in February 2004 when he stood in for the sick Andreas Scholl . He was celebrated as well as when he appeared in a Monteverdi production at the Berlin State Opera under René Jacobs . Jaroussky works regularly with the ensembles “La Fenice”, “Elyma” under Gabriel Garrido , the “Ensemble Matheus” under Jean-Christophe Spinosi and “L'Arpeggiata” under Christina Pluhar . In 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2015 he was awarded the ECHO Klassik award. In 2015 he received the Handel Prize of the City of Halle, awarded by the Handel House Foundation . In the 2015/16 season he was artist in residence at Konzerthaus Berlin . In 2016 an asteroid was named after him: (332183) Jaroussky . In 2016 he was again named “Singer of the Year” by ECHO Klassik for his album Green . In the 2016/17 season he was artist in residence with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester .

On March 6, 2017, Jaroussky opened the “Académie Musicale Philippe Jaroussky” located in the new La Seine Musicale concert hall in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris. Here children from 7 to 12 and young people from 18 to 25 receive music lessons and talent promotion according to the motto “culture for everyone”.
