Gabriel Garrido
Gabriel Garrido (* 1950 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine musician, musicologist and conductor who works primarily in the field of historical performance practice .
Live and act
At the age of 17, Gabriel Garrido was a member of the Argentine recorder quartet "Pro Arte", with which he made two European tours, among other things. He studied at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata , the Zurich University of Music and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis , where he specialized in the lute , baroque guitar and historical reed instruments . He was a member of the Italian Ensemble Ricercare and Jordi Savall's Ensemble Hesperion XX . He has also had a long collaboration with the vocal and instrumental ensemble “Studio di Musica Antica Antonio Il Verso” from Palermo.
Since 1977 he has taught recorder and ornamentation in 17th century music at the Center de Musique Ancienne of the Geneva Conservatory . Here he founded the Elyma ensemble in 1981 .
After fundamental research into the repertoire and performance practice, Garrido began in 1992 with a series of recordings of Latin American baroque music under the title “Les Chemins du Baroque” for the French label “K 617”. Subsequently, Garrido received an invitation from the International Music Council (IMC) of UNESCO to hold master classes, lectures and concerts at an international symposium dedicated to Latin American baroque music in San Carlos de Bariloche . For this activity he was awarded the "UNESCO Mozart Medal".
Garrido is also known for his performances of Italian music, especially the work of Claudio Monteverdi , such as his operas, ballets, Vespers and a complete recording of the collection of sacred works, “ Selva morale e spirituale ”. Since 1990 he has directed an annual opera performance at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. In 2000 in Venice he was honored by the “ Fondazione Giorgio Cini ” for his services to the maintenance of Italian baroque music .
Garrido also engaged international festivals, including the Festival d'Ambronay, the Festival de Sarrebourg, the Festival de Beaune and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music . At the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires he directed performances of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (2001) and Jean-Philippe Rameau's Les Indes Galantes (2002).
At the Festival Theater der Welt in Mülheim an der Ruhr came in 2010 under his leadership and directed by Claudio Valdés Kuri opera Montezuma by Carl Heinrich Graun a modern premiere.
