Life

Zipoli was born on October 17th (other sources indicate the 16th or 18th) October 1688 in Prato, Tuscany. It was there that his first music lessons began with the musicians of the city cathedral. Due to financial support from Grand Duke Cosimo III. de 'Medici he was able to continue his studies in Florence in 1707 . A year later he went to Rome , where he began his studies and later met Bernardo Pasquini . In the meantime, he stayed briefly in Bologna and Naples , but from where he left due to differences of opinion with Alessandro Scarlatti . In 1710 he took over the post of organist at Santa Maria in Trastevere . During this time in Rome he composed his first masses and oratorios . In 1716 he published his Sonata d'Intavolatura for organ and harpsichord .

In the same year he became a member of the Jesuit order , his entry motivation was the desire to go as a musician in the Jesuit reductions . He lived in Seville for a year . In April 1717 he began his journey to South America , where he arrived three months later and finally settled near Córdoba. In addition to continuing his theology and philosophy studies, he continued to devote himself to music. His compositions achieved great fame among mission members, and contemporary copies can be found in many libraries in Latin America. P. Piotr Nawrot SVD edited the scores found in the Archivo Musical de Chiquitos and Archivo Musical de Moxos (both in Bolivia), including masses, hymns and psalm settings. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 37, shortly before he was ordained a priest.
