Diego Fasolis (born April 19, 1958 in Lugano ) is a Swiss conductor and organist . He is considered a specialist in baroque music .
Career
Fasolis studied organ and choral conducting in Zurich and completed other master classes in France and Italy. In 1985 and 1986 he performed the complete organ works by Bach , Mendelssohn and Liszt as well as other classical composers. He has been awarded numerous prizes. In 1986 he was hired by the Italian-speaking radio in Switzerland ( Radiotelevisione Svizzera ) and in 1993 became chief conductor of the local instrumental ensemble and choir.
Fasolis specialized in baroque music and founded the instrumental ensemble Vanitas in Lugano in 1995 . Three years later he took over the management of I Barocchisti , with whom he made numerous recordings of works by Bach, Handel and Vivaldi . A recording of the Handel opera Faramondo received special praise from the critics in 2009.
Fasolis not only performs with his ensembles in southern and central Europe, he has also been a guest conductor at La Scala in Milan , the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and the Opéra de Lausanne . In 2012 he recorded the opera Artaserse by Leonardo Vinci with the Concerto Köln and other baroque artists, which made it into the German album charts. His permanent partners include singers Philippe Jaroussky , Max Emanuel Cenčić , recorder player Maurice Steger and mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli , with whom he performed and recorded the works of Agostino Steffani .
In 2013 Fasolis made his debut as conductor of Norma at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival and the Summer Festival . He was also invited for two concerts in 2014 and two opera productions in 2015, again Norma and, for the first time, Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride , both with Cecilia Bartoli in the title role. In 2017 he conducted Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea as the first new production at the reopened Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.
Awards
In 2013 he received the ECHO Klassik for Opera Recording of the Year (Opera of the 17th / 18th Century).
In 2017 he was awarded the Premio Bacco dei Borbone ( Festival della Valle d'Itria ).
