Marie-Nicole Lemieux CM CQ (born June 26, 1975 in Dolbeau-Mistassini , Québec ) is a Francophone Canadian opera and concert singer with an alto voice .

Life

Lemieux studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Marie Daveluy, who made her aware of her vocal range as a contrarian. She was the first Canadian to win first prize in the singing category at the Reine Elisabeth Concours in 2000 , where she was also awarded a special prize for song singing.

In addition to song singing, where she has already recorded the Wesendonck lieder by Richard Wagner , lieder Gustav Mahler and French Mélodies, she devoted herself to baroque opera, with Georg Friedrich Handel and Antonio Vivaldi representing the focus of her repertoire. In 2005 she made her debut in Claudio Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria under René Jacobs at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden .

At the Theater an der Wien she sang Geneviève in Pelléas et Mélisande in 2009 , as well as Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica and Zita in Gianni Schicchi in 2012 . She was also heard there in two concertante performances: 2011 in the title role of Giulio Cesare in Egitto and 2012 as Polinesso in Ariodante . In August 2014 she made her debut as Azucena in Trovatore at the Salzburg Festival .

On June 6, 2013, she was awarded the Ordre national du Québec .
