König Friedrich is a disused mine in the Harz region . It is located on the Beerberg, west of the Hasserode district of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt . The outdoor area today forms part of the natural history and geological educational trail . The tunnel now serves as a bat roost.

History

Graflich-Stolberg-Wernigerödische Bergrat Christoph Friedrich Jasche from Ilsenburg was one of the first to scientifically investigate the mining past of the Hasserode mining area . The exact year of speculation is not known. The tunnel was excavated about 200 meters in the mountains of the northwestern Beerberg. Since the naming is associated with King Friedrich II of Prussia, a suspicion in the 18th century is to be assumed.
