The Royal Villa ( Albanian  Vila Mbretërore ), also known as Zogu villa ( Vila e Zogut ), in the Albanian port city of Durres was the summer residence of King Zog .

As a symbol of the monarchy in the city, the building towers over the city.

The villa is located on the hill above the town at 98  m above sea level. A. The Adriatic Sea surrounds the range of hills on three sides.

The building was built in the style of monumental rationalism ; it simulates the shape of an eagle. Construction for 50,218,760 Franga began on June 16, 1927; it was given to the king by the entrepreneurs in the city. Kristo Sotiri, an architect who studied at the University of Padua and the University of Venice , designed the villa. At the time that Sotiri was designing the building, he already had experience, for example, as the architect of the court of Queen Elisabeth zu Wied in Romania . Zogu later commissioned the Italian architect Florestano Di Fausto to revise the project, who in turn left part of the execution to Giulio Bertè . Construction was completed in 1937, a few months before King Géraldine Apponyi de Nagyappony married.

The villa was used as a guest house for the communist government after the Second World War . In the People's Socialist Republic of Albania , communist leaders from Nikita Khrushchev to Cambodian prince Samde Norodom Sihanouk were guests in the building. Former US President Jimmy Carter was also a guest in the 1990s.

The interior of the villa was badly damaged in 1997 during the lottery riot. Plans by Crown Prince Leka of Albania to use the villa and the surrounding area have already been the subject of legal proceedings.

The villa has been for sale since April 2015.
