history

At the suggestion of Lord Mayor Hans Lohmeyer, Königsberg's city administration spun off municipal businesses after the First World War. The power plant , the tram Konigsberg , the gas company , the water works ( Hardershof ) with hot baths and public fountains and the sewer works with public lavatories were gradually from the (heavy) authorities structure dissolved in a company form accommodated. Eventually they were combined to form the Königsberger Werke und Straßenbahn GmbH . The shares remained in municipal ownership and the influence of the municipal corporations was largely preserved. The system became exemplary for other German and also foreign cities. Königsberger Kundenkredit GmbH , which Walter Kaminsky founded in 1926 at Junkerstrasse 8 as the first customer credit bank , was part of the Königsberg system .
