The Königsbrunn Ants (completely AFC Königsbrunn Ants eV ) are a German American football club. The Ants were founded as Augsburg Ants on October 18, 1983. The club was renamed after moving to Königsbrunn in autumn 1987 and joining TSV Königsbrunn. The Königsbrunn Ants have been registered as an independent association since 2005.

history

Under the guidance of US coaches from the then still existing military base in Augsburg, the first gaming experience was gained in 1985, and in 1986 the Ants competed in a league for the first time. The club's greatest success came in 1988 when they won the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga South. In the relegation games to the 1st Bundesliga, the Rüsselsheim Crusaders could then be beaten (32: 6 and 43: 0) and the Ants rose to the highest German division. However, they could not hold up there and were relegated after only one season. In the second division, a gradual relegation began, and for the 1995 season no team could be reported for league operations. The rebuilding began in the 1996 season in the fifth division. There one reached the championship in 1999 and a march through the fourth division in 2000, which could also be concluded with the championship. After two fourths and one third place, the championship in the Regionalliga-Süd and promotion to the GFL2 -South succeeded in 2004 . There you had to be content with a relegation place in 2005 and 2006 and could only keep the class due to withdrawals of other teams. In the 2007 season , the best placement was achieved with a fifth place. This could not be held in the 2008 season with a very young team, and they only finished last. Despite just one touchdown throughout the season, the team showed morale and played all games. Since then, the team has played in the Bayern League.
