The Körnerschule Linz is a federal high school and economic federal high school in Linz in Upper Austria . The school building, built according to plans by the architect Julius Schulte , is a listed building .

history

In 1889 the citizens of Linz founded a higher private school for girls with the support of the city council. The school was the third so-called girls 'high school (Lyzeum) in what is now Austria and the first girls' high school in Linz and was granted public rights in 1894 . The school was located in the building on the corner of Museumstrasse and Prunerstrasse, and the first Matura took place in 1903 with seven students in the conference room of the museum next to it.

In 1910 a Lyzealverein was founded and in 1911 a new school building based on the plans of the architect Julius Schulte at the corner of Körnerstrasse and Eisenhandstrasse was moved into. From 1985 to 1988 an extension was built according to the plans of the architect Weismann.

In 2018 the school was renamed Körnergymnasium.

Controversy

In 2016, the Upper Austrian News reported that the then director, Johann Waser, forbade the 8th grade pupils to take a Matura prank and threatened to report everyone involved.
