Kültür alakart

Kültür alakart is a Turkish-German cookbook . It was presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2008 and is a bilingual (German and Turkish) collection of interviews, texts and recipes. The editors are Ralf Frenzel , Christine Wagner and Şebnem Bahadır .

Emergence

Kültür alakart is the result of a joint project between the Communication Design course at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences and the Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies department at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Twenty-four celebrities from Turkey and Germany (with a Turkish migration background) present their recipes within the larger context of how they live and experience Turkish culture. Among others, Feridun Zaimoglu , Mario Levi , Fazıl Say , Cem Özdemir , Lale Akgün , Dilek Güngör , Muhsin Omurca and MK Perker are part of the party, some of whom also present Turkish versions of German dishes or German versions of Turkish dishes. Reading samples of the works of the interviewed persons can also be found in this book.

Meetings

The cookbook received some attention. In 2008, Der Spiegel called it the “Turkish-German cultural reading and cooking book that is currently the most active in terms of migration policy”. The RBB discussed the book extensively in its radio program. Patricia C. Borna from the Frankfurter Neue Presse saw the project as a “practical contribution to the living together of two cultures”.

Awards

Kültür alakart was awarded the Destination Award category Turkish Cookbook at the ITB Book Awards 2010 of the International Tourism Exchange.
