Artists' Guild Ulm
The Künstlergilde Ulm eV is a non-profit art association in Ulm . The approximately 200 members include both full-time and part-time artists as well as those interested in art.
History and activity
The artists 'association was founded on July 23, 1919, initially with 52 members, including 5 women, as an association of the Ulm artists' body. Members were painters, sculptors, craftsmen, architects and other interested parties. The initiative came from the head of the municipal painting school in Ulm, the art sculptor Karl Schäfer (1888–1956 or 1957), who was then also elected the first Gildemeister. In addition to dealing with new endeavors in art, then as now, the focus was on finding exhibition opportunities, representing common interests, preparing exhibitions, and expressing the opinion of art critics. The reputation of the artist should be strengthened. They met regularly, held disputes and organized festivals.
The artists' guild is co-organizer of the “Ulmer Kunst” triennial at the Museum Ulm , which is held every three years. Representatives of the guild are involved in deliberations in the culture committee of the city of Ulm. The work of the association is based on voluntary work. Closely associated with the Ulm Artists' Guild. V. is the Ulm school with a program of artistic courses and workshops.
The association has been located in the Donaustraße 5 building in Ulm since 2015.
