The Küsterland Chapel is a listed church building in Assinghausen , a district of the city of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The chapel on the Küsterland is dedicated to the painful Mother of God . The rendered quarry stone building with irregular 3 / 8 -Schluss is picturesquely situated under old trees. It is located on an old trade route and was built as a carter's chapel. The rectangular building with a flat wooden ceiling is structured by four windows with segmental arches. The window and door frames are made of wood. The choir is on the west side. A beautiful door is built into the eastern front with an inscription on the lintel: SANCTA MATER DOLORIS ORA PRO NOBIS TE PRECANTIBVS (1758) . The herringbone slate floor rises to the west. The roof is covered with slate and is crowned by a roof turret. In the altar there is an expressive Vesper picture , probably from the beginning of the 16th century.

The area of the Küsterland chapel also includes the chapel of the blood-sweating savior and the Lourdes grotto . In the chapel of the blood-sweating Savior , the Mount of Olives scene is reproduced with almost life-size figures. The chapel is also the starting point of a historical Way of the Cross .
