Kınalızâde Hasan Çelebi

Kınalızâde Hasan Çelebi (* around 1546 in Bursa ; † 1604 ) was an Ottoman lawyer, theologian, poet and bibliographer of the 16th century. His main work Tezkiretü'ş-Şuara ( Eng . Memories of the Poet ) is one of the best-known Ottoman Tezkire , a bibliographic encyclopedia of poets and poems.

Life

Kınalızâde Hasan Çelebi was born in the year 993 of the Islamic calendar, which began on March 4, 1546. He was the son of Mullah Ala al-Din Ali, who was known as Ali Çelebi (1510 / 11–1572). The father worked as an Ottoman lawyer and came from Isparta in Anatolia . Hasan was born in Bursa, where the father worked as a judge ( Qādī ).

Hasan Çelebi studied Islamic law and theology at a madrasa and then started a professional career as an assistant to the legal scholar Ebu Suud . In 1567/68 he became a teacher himself. In 1582/83 he was awarded the title of Müderris , a religious teacher, at the mosque of Mehmed II. Five years later he became a scholar at the Suleymaniye mosque .

In the Islamic year 999 (1590/91) he became a judge - first in Aleppo , then in Cairo and Edirne . He was sent again to Cairo, then to Bursa (1598/99), Gallipoli , the Eyup district in Constantinople and to Eski Zagra (July 1602).

He retired on March 15, 1604 and lived the rest of his life on a mansion in Egypt .

Hasan Çelebi's brother Fehmi († May 1596) was also a well-known poet.

Hasan Çelebi's work Tezkiretü'ş-Şuara was the last major bibliographic work on poets in the 16th century and was divided into three sections. It surpassed all others in terms of both linguistic quality and information content. He completed it in 1586 and dedicated it to Hoca Sadeddin Efendi . The Tezkire contains information on 600 poets and their work. Many manuscripts have survived.
