Kōji Kumeta

Kōji Kumeta ( Japanese 久 米 田 康 治 , Kumeta Kōji ; born September 5, 1967 in Kanagawa Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

He worked as an assistant at the Mangaka Mitsuru Adachi for a while . In 1990 he won a young talent competition of the Shogakukan publishing house with Yuke !! Nangoku Ice Hockey-Bu ( 行 け !! 南国 ア イ ス ホ ッ ケ ー 部 ). This award-winning work was finally expanded into a series in 1991 and published from then on in the manga magazine Shōnen Sunday . He worked on this gag manga series until 1996. Yuke !! Nankoku Ice Hockey-Bu was published in 23 books after the magazine was published.

The rest of the draftsman's work also consists of humorous gag manga. From 1996 to 1997 his series Taiyō no Senshi Pokapoka ( 太陽 の 戦 士 ポ カ ポ カ ) appeared in Shōnen Sunday . With a volume of 26 books even longer than Yuke !! Nankoku Ice Hockey-Bu is Katte ni Kaizō ( か っ て に 改 蔵 ), a comic that Kumeta drew for Shōnen Sunday from 1998 to 2004 . The focus of this manga is on a seventeen year old high school student who believes everything around him has to do with alien invasions and other supernatural things.

In 2005, Kumeta switched to Kōdansha publishing house, in whose Shōnen Magazine he has since published the series Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei ( さ よ な ら 絶望 先生 ). This is about an extremely pessimistic teacher and his everyday school life. Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei won the 2007 Kōdansha Manga Prize in the Shōnen category and is (as of 2011 or older) implemented as an anime television series. The manga will be translated into Chinese, English, French and Korean.

The cartoonist Kenjirō Hata was employed by him as an assistant.
